Qoutayba Neaimi
is a Belgian / Iraqi composer, professor, researcher, and former violinist of the Iraqi National Philharmonic Orchestra.
He is currently a professor of composition & orchestration at the Conservatoire royal de Mons in Belgium (Higher Education).
He has given numerous international workhshops and conferences in European and Arab Universities & Conservatoires (Université Libre de Bruxelles - ULB, Conservatoire de Lille, Conservatoire royal de Mons, Ain Shams Cairo University, Sharjah Book Fair, as well as in Koweit, Baghdad, Abu Dhabi...).
He gave a special lecture at the Royal Academy of Arts & Science of Belgium (the national center for Belgian research in science & arts), where he presented his invention : a « Polyphonic maqam musical system » extending a bridge between oriental and western musical traditions.
This achievement was praised as a crucial milestone in music history by several musical figures throughout the USA, Europe and the Arab countries.
Qoutayba Neaimi aims to promote peace and dialogue between cultures, advocating both for the valorisation of cultural roots and for the importance of cultural encounters.
His composition cover a large scope of styles and formations, going from orchestra to chamber music, opera, folkloric, film and cartoon soundtracks.
